TECTONICA
ART GALLERY
ACADEMIC PROJECT

As a lighthouse that indicates the path, the gallery is established in the dismantled and abandoned space to become a point of reference. An icon that seeks to promote culture and transform the space to revive the sector and provide a good quality public space to a deteriorated area, integrating the identity of the surrounding community .

Reusing an existing structure, the design proposal projects a flexible space that is defined by light, both inside and outside. Formally and to become that point of reference, the building is perceived as a cube that floats on the mountain and, when exploited by suppressing its edges, lets the light flood its interior during the day and the surrounding area at night . This is achieved on the one hand with its transparent and permeable first floor plan by raising the cube. On the other hand, the management of indirect natural light by means of a device located in its upper part, together with the dilations at the edges and the light reflected in the surrounding body of water, is what allows the simile with the lighthouse.

With the same intention of reviving the sector, the surrounding public space is worked from layers that allow sectioning activities and contribute to generate multiplicity of eventual uses on the mountain. These layers (vegetation, circulation, hydro and permanence) produce a condition of interstitial space that allows weaving nature with the spaces that determine its type of activity by its morphology. These spaces are developed from the conception of the place as a set of moments or rooms that determined by their visuals determine the route, always respecting the topography so that the surrounding space is seamlessly integrated with the project
