MOURERIA
PARQUE BIBLIOTECA/ LIBRARY PARK
PUBLIC BUILDING - ACADEMIC PROJECT

As a “point and line on plan”, the Parque Biblioteca project in Moureria responds to the context with two elements that relate to each other based on public space. The tension generated by the volumes is resolved with the materiality and location. Both are embedded in the terrain and generate a unit that multiplies the exterior. The Point or the cube, maintains its shape in order to develop its program. As an eccentric concentric element, its circulation and connection with the program is punctual and one-dimensional. It can only be accessed horizontally. This relates to the program since the activities developed in its interior have a more defined time frame of action.

The line, the rectilinear volume, alters its shape to adapt to its context so that, imitating it, it widens and retracts to generate spaces of recollection and recreation. Its circulation connects the public parts of the project making its route, although winding, free, and generates a fabric with the context that promotes its fortuitous use. On the other hand, it divides the uses and routes so that the most intimate part of the program is not affected by its more public program. They work at the same time as a barrier and link. They segregate and integrate the context into the public space both in section and plan. The intention with this was to seamlessly weave the project into its surroundings so that the pedestrian would feel a kind of curiosity and ease coming in to inhabit the project’s spaces.
